An ode to all the boys I crushed on in high school

I have always been attracted to guys that are WAY cooler than I am (BTW Sam is WAY way WAY cooler than I am).  In high school I crushed on the guys that were into Weezer and just really great music.  I was really too shy, and plus this douchey guy I dated was all somewhat friends with some of these people for a short amount of time.  Anyways, this outfit is my tribute to that time in my life where I wished I had the balls to dress like this, but didn't because I was lame (Well I did dress like this kinda..)

Maybe this is because last night I folded my laundry and gawked at the line up to Bonnaroo to Raditude (the latest Weezer album) and danced around in my new glasses...  Oh, yes, these are the new glasses.  I went with a pair of Ray Bans with the rivets on the side.  They are tortise on the inside and then an espresso brown.  I LOVE THEM.

Sweater: given to my by A, J.Crew (I love this sweater and yes I wear it once a week)
T-shirt: Beatles Abbey Road T-shirt, Forever21
Jeans: Gap, DIY dyed
Shoes: Chuck Taylors
Brown Tights: Gap

Thanks to my wonderful boyfriend Sam for taking these pictures.  He is so impossibly cool and has the best taste in music.  For real!

Well, hello new shoes!

On Friday, I wore this outfit.  Usually, I don't take pictures of what I wear on the weekends because I most likely just wear t-shirts and jeans or comfies.  Anyways, after looking at pictures of this dress, tights, shoes combo... I realized something.  My legs look a little stumpy.  Funny because as I was getting dressed in my room I thought to myself, "I think I might hem this dress a little bit."  So I think I will.  Hem it to mid thigh?

Dress: H&M
Belt: Fred Flare
Tights: Gap
Scarf: Spice in Waco, TX
Shoes: Naturlizers, Ebay!

YES!  I am totally in love with these shoes.  I got them on Thursday and wore them Thursday night and all day on Friday.

I must be honest though.  I think its time for me to go up a size in tights.  I love these tights, I love the color, however, they are simply too tight especially in waist.  On Friday, I had sushi for lunch and because my tights were so tight, my food wasn't digesting correctly and around 3 pm I felt so incredibly sick.

On that note, happy monday everyone!

Blue Monday?

Did everyone have a great weekend?  I made sure to rest, rest, rest...  On Friday, Sam and I had a margarita date night.  We totally pigged out on tequila, chips, and enchiladas.  Sooo yummy.  I tell you, Mexican food could cause world peace....

I wanted to look a little more special than my usual trying to stay warm.  I remembered this dress that I got on sale at Belmont Army in Chicago for $10 when my roommate and I went in October!  It was a little short to wear to work, so I paired it with a long navy blue cotton slip I got about a year and a half ago and let it poke out the bottom a little.  That night though, I ditched the slip and put on some black tights under my blue ones because it was really way too cold for just one layer of tights.

I really wanted a pair of blue tights after seeing Julie's from Orchid Grey and Nichole's from Cut and Sew, and wanted to keep it basic like these ladies did.

I will say this, I LOVE how they look with these shoes that I got at DSW.  The wrist warmers, were made by my mom and have a matching pair of leg warmers to go with them that I cannot wait to show off on here.

Cardigan: Anthropologie
Dress: Belmont Army in Chicago, Volcom
Slip: Old Navy
Tights: Target
Shoes: DSW
Necklaces: Vintage costume jewelery, family heirloom

Inspiration - Led Zeppelin

As a kid, I was more likely to be able to sing along to Tom Petty than say Sesame Street.  My parents listened to classic rock in the car, and are pretty big music fans themselves.  It was only natural, that I inherit that too.  I was dancing and twirling to Eric Clapton and The Beatles while most of my friends were jamming out to the latest Amy Grant tune.

This weekend I was cooking some soup and listening to Led Zeppelin, one of the albums Sam got me for Christmas.  It was also laundry day, so I was forced to wear some pretty radical flares that I bought while I was working at the Gap a few years.  I decided to run with it and pull an entire 60's vibe.  It is funny how putting a scarf around your head can make you feel like you are in a different time period entirely.  I didn't really go out of the house like this, only with the flares on.  I looked oh so 2006.

(Ha!  You can totally see Sam in this picture.  His debut!)
Top: Old Navy (old old old too)
Jeans: Gap (back when I worked there)
Headscarf: Forever 21
Wooden necklace: Kayce Hughes
Shoes (even though you can barely see them): Urban Outfitters

These jeans make me want to dye them and slim down the legs a little bit.  What do you think?  I always liked the color though, so maybe just slim down the legs.

Oh, and I wanted to leave you with a little taste of what I was listening to that day.  Check out this video, oh soooo amazing!

A bit of summer to winter? Yes, I did it!

Before I started my year break from shopping, I wanted to find a pair of fall/winter shorts to wear with tights.  However, I never found any, therefore I either have to make a pair or make do.  Now, since my sewing machine is still in repair, I had to make do.

This summer I purchased a black jumper from American Eagle.

I wanted to give this a shot.  This is what I came up with:

Blouse: Anthropologie
Jumper: American Eagle
Sweater Tights: Target
Flats: Old Navy

Verdict:  Well, it was incredibly difficult going to the bathroom.  But overall, I was pleased with the look.  I felt warm, but not a heavy feeling of so many layers.  I am not sure how it would have worked with a less blousey shirt.  I wore it bowling with my co-workers for our Christmas party, and I bowled my best game!  A 140!

I am going to be traveling on Tuesday, so I am frantically planning out my blog posts for the week, packing, and doing laundry.  I will be going home to Austin for Christmas with my family and I am so excited!

Wednesday's outfit

Yesterday started off totally mild and then turned into a bitterly cold day but I loved my outfit I wore yesterday.  I first want to say sorry for the horrible quality.  I had no one to take my picture, I was using my iSight camera in Photo Booth.

Sunglasses: Thrifted, Buffalo Exchange Denver
Cardigan: Urban Outfitters
Black V-Neck: Urban Outfitters
Skirt: Self made using Ready Made's tutorial
Tights: Gap
Shoes: Random shoe store off Milwalkee Avenue in Wicker Park, Chicago, IL

This was the debut of the skirt I made.  I had issues with the gathers for this skirt, so it ended up being a little big.  I needed a stretch belt in order to cinch it at my waist.  I was buying a few Christmas gifts off of Fred Flare the other day and loved the bird belt.  I love the way it looks with my outfit.

Kelsey Foster Photography

My former roommate Kelsey Foster is a stellar photographer. She was recently in Nashville for a shoot and I got to be the object of her test shots. I found out that when I'm not really trying, its easy to take good pictures. Here a few:
