Fashion Tip Friday - Rockin' a T-shirt

In honor of my somewhat laziness this week, I wanted to honor a wonderful piece of my own personal wardrobe which is the T-shirt.  I love t-shirts, the traditional t-shirt and also the more fitted t-shirt.  Because of college and working with non profits and musicians a few years ago, I got quite the collection of the basic traditional t-shirt.  I also bought a ton of graphic t-shirts from Urban Outfitters and Forever 21 as well.  The great thing about the t-shirt is that they are always perfect to layer under cardigans, sweaters, dresses, etc, and probably one of the most versatile pieces of clothing you can own.

Mash graphics and patterns together.
I love taking a bold graphic and mashing it with a classic pattern, such as polka dots.  Pairing a graphic t-shirt with a dress can take even a more classic looking dress, and give it a little bit of edge.

Stretch out the neck.
One of the great things about cotton is with an easy wash, it snaps back into its former shape.  Cotton jersey can and should be stretched.  To make a normal everyday t-shirt look a little more "rocker chic", stretch the neck out with your hands.  I did this with my outfit I posted today, because I wanted a little bit more of an edgy slouchy look with my t-shirt.

Get high quality.
Most bands and organizations have realized the marketing appeal when people actually wear a shirt, instead of just sleeping in it or jogging in it.  They have opted for a higher quality t-shirt rather than something cheap.  In my day job, part of our marketing is providing t-shirts to customers.  We realized that our customers were more likely to actually wear the shirts to events, if the shirts actually looked good.

Looking back through my archive even in just the few weeks that I have been chronicling my outfits, I wear a lot of t-shirts.  This week a couple of different bloggers and I discussed the idea of a personal "signature look", and I will majorly own up to the fact that a t-shirt is a huge part of my signature look.  I have always loved pairing t-shirts with unexpected clothing, and encourage you to take your everyday t-shirt and pair it a flirty high waist skirt, or tucked into a pair of low rise jeans with a boyfriend cardigan.
